Two weeks ago I reported that I ‘reached a significant financial milestone.’
Well, after spending some money and allowing two weeks to pass, I’ve now got the joy of reaching that milestone again! How good is that?
Please don’t sue me. I’ve got a nice Friday glow and the sun is shining. Enjoy your weekend! I certainly will be after a horrible four days.
Thanks for Kirsty for interviewing me a month ago. You can read the full piece here and some related Twitter responses are below.
KeithBond @befuddle first time i’ve heard Leeds Building Society called a significant financial milestone, well done though, now you can walk to work
BFG9000 @befuddle celebrate with loads of beer & a trip to the casino – then when you wake up try to get back to that same milestone
swifty7 @befuddle pat yourself on the back, and head for the next milestone!
loquax @befuddle go and spend your £5 on sweets? ;o) LOL
venturian @befuddle spend it!
Ok then, you’ve twisted my arm! I shall.
Bookies aren’t the only people to make some nice money at top sporting events. I sensed that I could make some pocket money if I kept on top of the increased bookmakers online offers during the Cheltenham Festival.
I refreshed their content each day with all the latest bonus codes and I even created a bespoke page for the four-day event.

Was the effort worth it? Too right! I made £600 in commission and that is a huge turnaround to the £15 I made last Grand National Day.
Some notes on the gambling side of things:
Whilst I didn’t manage to convert for Sky Bet, the daily emails from the new Affiliate Hub were very useful and Jo from stream:20 was able to provide bespoke creatives immediately.
It has taken me 15 sign-ups to get into positive equity with Coral Rev Share via the Brand Conversions network.
I’ve a few gamblers betting over £2,000 a time at Coral Casino but without these the commission would be stuck in the negative. I would have made £75 commission if promoting via Affiliate Window but I am interested to see how much I can make via this residual income.
Last month I queried why I didn’t receive a Jackpotjoy revenue share payment on the usual date of the 26th. It transpires that I “had a substantial winner”.
This meant that the net revenue I generated was negative. Fortunately, Jackpotjoy don’t carry over negative, so I shall receive future payments.
To other gambling merchants, please add an 88×31 micro bar creative to your mix. You’ll then feature on the Grand National page.
It’s been a bizarre month for me. For starters I was one of the first to turn up for a conference … at 8:30am! … on a Saturday! … sober!
I later made amends and got back to Befuddle ways and was later pictured with a lovely friendly lady at a local Leeds establishment.

Anyway, at the ThinkVisibility conference there was a mixture of affiliate marketeers and ‘geeks‘, including organiser The Hodge.
Names you may recognise from the A4u site or networking include Kieron, ‘Elaine and Dave’ and Chris Clarkson.
Kieron presented the last talk of the day and showed some very interesting slides on how he made just a small part of his money during 2008.

I made some bulleted notes along the way on my phone.
- mobile
- blog
- cpm geo target
- email & rss
- outsource
- buyitnow x2 conv
- build trust (ie expired codes)
- reply to all emails
- don’t upset Dave Naylor
- always check backlinks
- subdomains for serps
- sales
- ‘chill’ elaine
I’ve been working on some of them since. The “You need to chill out more,” comment from Elaine is currently difficult at the present time, so I am channeling my energy by 2) updating my blog more and 7) building trust by spring cleaning my site and removing expired content. Although this does go against 12) sales where Kieron demonstrated some good examples of making money with older content.
There will be another Think Visibility event in Leeds in September and it will sell out and it will be a late night both before and afterwards … if you follow me at least.
I’ve recorded my first sale that’s been made via an Easy Content Unit placed on my Shop Codes site.
A potential ink buyer ignored all my useful, relevant and valid content before their eye settled on the easily intregrated unit that compares prices of related products or brands.
They went on to spend a healthy £71 via the Epson Ink unit pictured below.

Now that I’m currently not adding any new codes to the site this week – just removing all expired content - these content units may become more integrated.
I’d much rather have these at the foot of pages displaying relevant content to divert users than Adsense.
The design could be improved but the stats say it’s already doing it’s job. The product bought was from Viking and this unit was on the Viking Direct page and so it maybe reinforced that they offer better prices.
Meanwhile, Existem AM have designed and created a stack of units you can use for their merchants. Just grab the code from their blog and replace the id once you’ve signed up at ECU.
